Construction Materials Testing Technician

GeoWerks Engineering is a company focusing in Geotechnical, Civil, and Environmental Engineering. Established in 2007, and with a main office and laboratory in Alpharetta, GeoWerks has experienced much growth and is now expanding its service area from Metro Atlanta to locations throughout the southeast.

We are currently looking for an engineering intern and/or Co-op.  This position is often referred to as a Project Manager In-Training as the candidate will learn tasks that will eventually allow the management of personnel performing these tasks.  The ideal candidate has a background in Civil Engineering and has successfully taken Geotechnical Engineering and/or foundation design coursework. This position requires an individual who is very hard-working and has a keen attention to detail, while also being flexible and open to learning new techniques. The responsibilities and tasks related to this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Laboratory analysis of soils:

    • Atterberg Limits

    • Standard/Modified Proctors

    • Sieve Analyses

  • Compressive Strength of Concrete (Laboratory)

  • Assisting with shallow foundation evaluations

  • Proper techniques for obtaining and preparing compressive strength test cylinders

  • Field density determinations for soil, compacted aggregate and asphalt, using various methods

  • Assisting Project/Staff Engineers during actual Geotechnical Explorations;

    • Assisting with boring layout

    • Assisting with field classifications of soils

    • Splitting “spoon” samplers

    • Assisting with creating boring logs

    • Assisting with Report Preparation

We offer a competitive salary based upon hours worked and education/certification level.  Hourly rates typically range from $15/hr to $22/hr.  As this is outdoor work, the schedule is weather dependant and can vary.  Management can be flexible with school schedules.
