Engineering Insight. Practical Solutions. Responsive Service.
Built on Experience. Focused on Service
GeoWerks Engineering was founded with a simple goal: provide high-quality geotechnical, environmental, and construction materials testing services while delivering the responsiveness and personal attention clients deserve.
We’ve helped thousands of clients over the years and would like to think we have learned a thing or two along the way. The most important lessons we have learned are about the value we bring to our customers.
Our Experience
For over 20 years, GeoWerks has provided practical geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, and construction materials testing across the Southeast. We bridge the gap between theory and execution, delivering recommendations that work in the real world—not just on paper.
John R. Gehrlich, P.E. and Founding Partner

John brings more than 30 years of experience in civil, geotechnical, environmental, and construction materials engineering, along with over 25 years of hands-on construction and development experience. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology from Southern Polytechnic State University and is a registered Professional Engineer in both Georgia and North Carolina.
As Principal Engineer and co-founder of GeoWerks Engineering, John provides technical leadership and oversight for a wide range of geotechnical, environmental, testing, and inspection services throughout the Southeast. His unique combination of engineering expertise and real-world construction experience allows him to help clients identify potential challenges early, evaluate risk, and develop practical solutions that support successful project outcomes.
Throughout his career, John has worked on projects ranging from residential developments and educational facilities to large-scale commercial, retail, industrial, and manufacturing sites. Clients value his practical approach, responsiveness, and ability to provide clear recommendations that help keep projects moving forward.
Although born in Virginia, John has called Georgia home since his teenage years. Outside of work, he and his wife enjoy catching a good ball game, spending time on Lake Lanier, and taking advantage of Atlanta’s outstanding food scene. His connection to the region extends beyond engineering, giving him a genuine appreciation for the communities and projects he serves throughout Georgia and the Southeast.
Michael T. Caverzasi, Founding Partner
Michael “Mike” Caverzasi earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geology from Valdosta State University in 2002. With more than 20 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, and construction materials testing, he brings a practical, field-oriented perspective to every project.
Throughout his career, Mike has worked extensively in construction and development, giving him a firsthand understanding of the challenges owners, developers, contractors, and project teams face. He applies that experience to help clients evaluate site conditions, troubleshoot construction issues, and develop practical solutions that keep projects moving forward. His commitment to teamwork, preparation, and helping others succeed extends beyond the workplace and into the local community through local nonprofits.
As an Operating Partner of GeoWerks Engineering, Mike manages daily operations for geotechnical, environmental and construction period services for the company. He’s been known to return calls early in the morning before most wake up or schedule a jobsite visit with you at sunrise. If you know him well, his phone likely will not ring more than twice before he answersand rarely will you get his voicemail. He’s quick to remind you that “texts are best” and likes to pretend he’s not that busy.
Outside of work, Mike loves to spend time with his family and loves to serve the church. You can find him at the front of the church on Sundays greeting everyone with a smile and handshake. Mike loves a good youth baseball game watching his son Jack or standing in an arena watching Alice on horseback. Give Mike a call about your next project.
Our Foundation
GeoWerks was founded by industry veterans who saw a clear market need for a more responsive, client-focused firm. Prior to co-founding the company with Michael Caversazi, Principal Engineer John Gehrlich spent more than two decades in leadership roles for established Metro Atlanta firms. Today, that foundational leadership ensures every project—from major commercial developments to property acquisitions—moves forward with total confidence.
Why clients choose GeoWerks

What we help you avoid
A geotechnical investigation is one of the most valuable investments you can make early in a project. Understanding site conditions before design and construction helps reduce the risk of:
- Unexpected rock excavation
- Foundation and settlement issues
- Excessive earthwork costs
- Drainage and groundwater problems
- Construction delays
- Costly redesigns and change orders
- Unforeseen subsurface conditions
By identifying these issues early, project teams can make informed decisions that help control costs and keep projects on schedule.
Serving Commercial and Residential Development Projects
GeoWerks supports developers, architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, contractors, and owners with geotechnical investigations and engineering recommendations that support successful project planning and construction.
Our services help teams evaluate site feasibility, develop foundation recommendations, assess earthwork requirements, and reduce construction risk.
